F1 driver Liam Lawson nearly hit two marshals as they ran across the track during his lap at the Mexican GP.

The incident occurred last Sunday (26) while the Red Bull Racing driver was on his third lap shortly after returning to the race following a brief pit stop.

The shocking moment was captured by Lawson’s onboard camera, with the New Zealand driver audible expressing his astonishment to his team moments after the incident.

“What was that? Are you kidding me? Did you see that? I could have… killed them,” exclaimed Lawson, before a team member apologized for the incident and praised Lawson for managing to avoid the two men.

In the interview immediately after the race, Lawson said he was shocked by what had happened. “Honestly, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” he said, according to BBC Sports.

“Obviously, there was a misunderstanding somewhere, but I’ve never experienced this before and I’ve never seen this happen. It’s unacceptable.”

“We can’t understand how, on an active track, marshals can just cross the track like that. I have no idea why, I’m sure we’ll get some explanation, but this cannot happen again,” Lawson added.

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), Formula 1’s governing body, confirmed that the case is under investigation.
